The law requires that\u2014as of November 1\u2014companies in NYC must include a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/assets\/cchr\/downloads\/pdf\/publications\/Salary-Transparency-Factsheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">good faith salary range<\/a>&#8221; for the jobs they advertise, game studios included.<\/p>\n<p>NYC isn&#8217;t exactly a hub for game development, but it is home to offices from heavy-hitters like Rockstar, Take-Two, Activision, and Epic. New York job listings posted by those companies have revealed what you can expect to earn working for some of the world&#8217;s biggest games companies in one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/06\/08\/most-expensive-cities-in-the-world-new-york-jumps-past-tokyo-and-geneva-on-expat-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most expensive cities on Earth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rockstar is first up and most extensive, ranging widely\u2014depending on job type and seniority\u2014from $50k to $57k for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rockstargames.com\/careers\/openings\/position\/5226359003\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">associate dialogue designer<\/a> all the way up to nearly $200k for the company&#8217;s various <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rockstargames.com\/careers\/openings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open director positions<\/a>. Pulling anywhere from $197k to over a quarter of a million dollars of a year, you&#8217;ll get to play a leading role in Epic&#8217;s metaverse ambitions, whatever they are and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/people-cant-explain-what-the-metaverse-is-but-are-very-excited-for-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whatever that means<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/the-internet-is-mocking-meta-for-announcing-its-probably-most-requested-feature-legs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Probably something to do with legs.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not all bad: Epic does seem to pay relatively well even for positions that aren&#8217;t shepherding us toward dystopia.
