The commission is said to be launching the investigation after Microsoft decided against filing remedies\u2014commitments that would satisfy the Commission&#8217;s worries regarding the deal\u2014before a deadline of midnight tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Just like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/brazil-approves-microsofts-activision-blizzard-purchase-says-it-wont-defend-particular-interests-of-specific-competitors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brazilian<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/uk-watchdog-announces-in-depth-investigation-of-microsofts-activision-blizzard-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UK market regulators<\/a>, the European Commission&#8217;s issues stem largely from worries that Microsoft&#8217;s ownership of Activision would close off its competitors&#8217; access (or Sony&#8217;s access, if we&#8217;re being specific) to Call of Duty, despite Microsoft&#8217;s repeated insistence that it will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/microsoft-says-it-will-keep-call-of-duty-on-playstation-as-long-as-theres-a-playstation-out-there\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">keep the series on PlayStation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Politico also reports that the European Commission has been making inquiries of Microsoft&#8217;s rivals about its cloud services, which came up a lot in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/microsoft-has-a-bleak-outlook-on-cloud-gamings-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft&#8217;s recent submission<\/a> to the UK Competition and Market Authority (CMA).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s probably not the reaction Microsoft was hoping for from the European Commission. The company would no doubt prefer every country to wave the deal through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/saudi-arabia-first-country-to-approve-microsofts-acquisition-of-activision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as easily as Saudi Arabia did<\/a>, but it looks like Microsoft&#8217;s lawyers are going to have to pen a lengthy submission to European regulators just like they did for the UK.<\/p>\n<p>On the plus side (at least for us), Microsoft&#8217;s submission to the UK CMA revealed all sorts of interesting tidbits, like how a deal between Sony and Activision is somehow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/microsoft-says-a-sony-deal-with-activision-stops-call-of-duty-coming-to-game-pass\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">keeping Call of Duty off of Game Pass<\/a>. We also learned that Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/microsoft-has-a-bleak-outlook-on-cloud-gamings-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">isn&#8217;t quite as bullish on cloud gaming<\/a> in private as they are on gaming convention stages, and that the company thinks we should all stop worrying about Call of Duty exclusivity because, hey, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/microsofts-latest-activision-acquisition-defense-what-if-call-of-duty-sucked\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">what if the future games suck as much as Vanguard did<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Who knows what we&#8217;ll learn next?
