{"id":2400,"date":"2022-06-18T21:21:59","date_gmt":"2022-06-18T21:21:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.bwgamespot.com\/index.php\/2022\/06\/18\/this-collection-of-old-game-logos-delights-the-primordial-lizard-parts-of-my-dumb-brain\/"},"modified":"2022-06-18T21:21:59","modified_gmt":"2022-06-18T21:21:59","slug":"this-collection-of-old-game-logos-delights-the-primordial-lizard-parts-of-my-dumb-brain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.bwgamespot.com\/index.php\/2022\/06\/18\/this-collection-of-old-game-logos-delights-the-primordial-lizard-parts-of-my-dumb-brain\/","title":{"rendered":"This collection of old game logos delights the primordial lizard parts of my dumb brain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As both I and the world get older, I&#8217;m increasingly desperate for scraps of anything to remind me of more hopeful times\u2014cue <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gamepluslogo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game+Logo<\/a>, a Twitter account that manages to tickle my brain by tweeting out jpegs of logos from old developers, publishers, and games.<\/p>\n<p>The account is curated by independent developer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/danclarke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dan Clarke<\/a>, and presents logos from all eras and genres of gaming, from 90s graphics card manufacturers to modern-day JRPG devs. Perhaps there&#8217;s something to be interrogated about a life lived in the belly of consumerism, seeing a logo for a product I enjoyed 15 years ago and hooting at my screen in glee, but I just don&#8217;t care at this point\u2014seeing these pop up in my Twitter feed is just <em>nice<\/em>. Here&#8217;s a small sampling of some of my favorites from Game+Logo&#8217;s less than a month online.<\/p>\n<h2>Origin Systems<\/h2>\n<div class=\"see-more see-more--clipped\">\n<p>Origin Systems Inc.[1988] pic.twitter.com\/umISkrB1iG<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gamepluslogo\/status\/1537900614796967937\">June 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"see-more__filter display-see-more\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"see-more__button-container display-see-more\"><span class=\"see-more__button\">See more<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Gone but never forgotten, flayed alive by Electronic Arts and its good name stapled to EA&#8217;s now rather quaint and outmoded proprietary storefront, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gamepluslogo\/status\/1537900614796967937\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Origin Systems<\/a> gave us the likes of Ultima, System Shock, and Wing Commander and paved the way for subsequent CRPGs, JRPGs, and immersive sims. Origin&#8217;s sky-blue logo featuring a compass piercing the text of the company name gives off good vibes with a hint of melancholy for what we&#8217;ve lost.<\/p>\n<h2>UMD<\/h2>\n<div class=\"see-more see-more--clipped\">\n<p>Universal Media Disc (UMD)Sony [2004] pic.twitter.com\/MTQ1p0z3kN<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gamepluslogo\/status\/1537584301705142275\">June 16, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"see-more__filter display-see-more\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"see-more__button-container display-see-more\"><span class=\"see-more__button\">See more<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The winding road of tech history is paved with failed media formats, and Sony&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gamepluslogo\/status\/1537584301705142275\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weird little plastic-encased discs<\/a> for the PSP have long since joined the likes of Betamax and HD DVD. It&#8217;s always hard to believe that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gamepluslogo\/status\/1537476248666095616\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3dfx<\/a> and its legendary Voodoo cards had such a short run given their massive impact on PC gaming. Our only mistake was letting it end.
